A flattered McCormack won’t run for Lt. Gov.

Upon learning that Deb Richter wants to see him run for lieutenant governor, state Sen. Richard McCormack (D-Bethel) was flattered.

"I think professionally and financially I'm not in a position to launch a statewide campaign right now," McCormack told PolitickerVTcom.

Though he's ruling out a statewide run this election cycle, McCormack added, "I would love to be lieutenant governor"

"It's a job a lot of people settle for," McCormack explained, "but one advantage is that you're able to pick an issue and be an advocate for it."

"As long as the governor is healthy, there is not much of a job description," McCormack said.

With this week's announcement that Cambridge physician Deb Richter would not challenge Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, Democrats are left without a candidate.

While McCormack expects that someone in the party will come forward, he is "reluctant to speculate" exactly who that candidate could be.
