Former Gov. Kunin on Symington: 'I hope she runs'

ARLINGTON, Va. - Madeleine Kunin, Vermont's first and only female governor, says she hopes that House Speaker Gaye Symington enters the race for governor.

"She'd be terrific," Kunin told PolitickerVT.com. "She has very strong credentials."

"But it's always tough against an incumbent, even more so in a three-way race," Kunin said, referring to the current field of Republican Gov. Jim Douglas and Progressive Party candidate Anthony Pollina.

When asked if Symington has discussed a potential bid with her Kunin said yes, adding only that Symington "is still in the process of deciding."

Kunin was promoting her new book, "Pearls, Politics, and Power: How Women Can Win and Lead" in the Washington D.C. area.
