Anthony Pollina

Progressives are hoping to put together a clear run for Pollina, much like the deal Bernie got from the Democrats last year. With real Democrats slow to take on the Governor, Pollina’s chances climb.

VSAC Vermont Student Assistance Corporation

VSAC is at the center of a Federal Probe about improperly steering student loan applicants. This could open the door for legislators to push for changes in this powerful organization and its leadership. Legislators have grumbled for years but now will likely be the time that they will push for reforms in an attempt to keep more state tax dollars in the state. VSAC support of out-of-state scholarships has been an issue for many in Montpelier.

John Campbell

Rumors still swirl about the very likable State Senator being the Party’s best choice to put a real challenge to Douglas. If the void exists for too long look for pressure to continue to mount for Campbell to get into it. The DNC Chairman knows the race will be tough but can’t punt and will add try hard to win over Campbell.

Catamount Health

Catamount Health looks like it won’t make anyone happy. Conservatives just see another government program and single-payer advocates feel the Governor is a shill for the insurance industry. As Catamount ads go up on the air, the program remains down… and it may eventually drag the Governor down with it.

Montpelier High School

The school was ranked number 5 in the nation in the annual U.S. News and World Reports America’s Best High Schools. We all know that Vermont is a great place to live, and the politicians will be hurting themselves trying to take credit for this one.

Anti War Movement

Reports out of Iraq actually start to show positive movement. National Democrats have had to acknowledge the shift in strategies is reducing violence. Vermont politicians are going to have to start to moderate their stances at least slightly or risk looking out of touch. The war will remain unpopular but the reality of the situation will make many change their set responses.
