Winners

Losers

Jim Barnett

With his candidate picking up the endorsement of the Boston Globe, to add to the Union Leader, Barnett has won the press war in New Hampshire. He seems to have kept his staff in the game after a trying year. With a month to go, and the holiday period coming quickly, we will see if this Vermonter can put his mark on the New Hampshire primary. Yet he is definitely a winner this week.

House Republicans

Losing Sunderland and Adams in one week makes the House Republicans the losers of the week. Adams is only temporally sidelined but their loss is a blow to an already shaky organization.

David Sunderland

David’s service to the Rutland and House Republicans will be missed. He was a quite, yet strong presence in Montpelier. This former wrestler always worked hard. One party activist said, “David was everywhere”. He is likely not going to be gone too long. At some point the Republican Party will have to tap the talent of Sunderland. The bench is thin and this week it just got thinner.

Rutland GOP

The caucus system the town committee uses and the Governor supports seems straight out of the Soviet Block. Send up 3 names and the Governor chooses who represents Rutland. What about a special election? Let the people decide, not just some insiders. Some one on the inside of that organization needs to stand up and remind them what elected official should mean.

Symington and Shumlin

This week the Symington and Shumlin rolled out their “Healthcare Reform” in a state house presser. The Democrats are going on the offensive and driving the message. Taking the policy fight to the Governor shows the leadership is doing their job. Double S are winners of the week.
