Douglas under fire over foreclosure comment

Gov. Jim DouglasGov. Jim DouglasGov. Jim Douglas is under fire from state Democrats for his recent comments in the press about the state's foreclosure rate. Douglas said: "We're keeping our fingers crossed that they won't go up much more." (UPDATE below)

The Democratic Party issued a blistering press release naming the Democratic and Republican leaders taking a proactive stance to halt the current housing crisis. The Democratic release states that Douglas is just sitting on his hands as Vermonters can't afford their homes.

The governor's team is quick to counter that Vermont has not been affected by the housing bubble seen in other states and that it is the Democrats in the legislature that keep making the dream of owning a home more and more difficult for average Vermonters.

Republicans point to the most recent vote for greater limitations and fees on home construction.

DEVELOPING ...

UPDATE and CLARIFICATION: I attributed the “fingers crossed" quote to the Governor. It was not the Governor, rather an administration official. I apologize for the inaccuracy.
