Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Tom Costello addressed the state Senate Judiciary Committee in a public hearing Thursday evening regarding the proper legal actions against sexual predators.

In his prepared statement, Costello advocated for thoughtful legislation instead of relying on gut reactions and proposed several initiatives he supports.

Thomas Costello of Brattleboro is projected to win Vermont's Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.

With 45 percent of all precincts reporting, the Associated Press declared Costello's victory shortly after 8:30 this evening. Costello, 63, had received 61 percent of all votes, while his challenger Nate Freeman, 40, managed to earn 39 percent of all votes.

Costello will square off against Republican incumbent Brian Dubie in the general election.
