Women play unprecedented role in Vt. Democratic Party

They’re all women.

The vast majority of leadership roles in the Green Mountain State’s Democratic Party are currently filled by women: from elected officials to the state’s top party executives. And Vermont has an excellent record of looking past gender to determine the capabilities of a candidate: almost 38 percent of the legislature is composed of women—the highest percentage in the country. The national average of women serving in state legislatures is only 23 percent.

Clinton's Vermont co-chair: 'It is not the time to drop out'

ARLINGTON, Va. – Madeleine Kunin, former governor and co-chairwoman for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign in Vermont, says Sen. Clinton should keep pursuing the Democratic nomination.

Reacting to Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy's comments on Vermont Public Radio that Clinton should bow out of the race for the good of her party, Kunin said, "It is not the time to drop out, it's her decision."

Kunin, Vermont's first and only female governor, is currently on tour promoting her new book, "Pearls, Politics, and Power: How Women Can Win and Lead."

Former Gov. Kunin on Symington: 'I hope she runs'

ARLINGTON, Va. - Madeleine Kunin, Vermont's first and only female governor, says she hopes that House Speaker Gaye Symington enters the race for governor.

"She'd be terrific," Kunin told PolitickerVT.com. "She has very strong credentials."

Kunin: Galbraith 'stronger' challenger than Pollina

Former Democratic Governor Madeleine Kunin believes that Democrat Peter Galbraith would pose a stronger challenge to Republican Governor Jim Douglas than would Progressive Anthony Pollina, she told PolitickerVT.com Monday.

“I see (Galbraith) as a stronger challenger than Anthony Pollina,” she said.

Clinton camp details final push

The Clinton Vermont campaign is outlining its final 24-hour push in the state.

It is planning visibilities in Bennington, Rutland, Manchester, Norwich, Brattleboro, Burlington, Middlebury, White River Junction. Phone banking will be taking place in Burlington and Rutland.

Appearing on Clinton’s behalf at campaign events will be surrogates Madeleine Kunin, Sara Kittell, Daryl Pillsbury, Shap Smith, Johanna Donovan and Allison Clarkson.

Former Vermont Governor and Clinton state Co-Chair Madeleine Kunin will be hosting a campaign phone bank this afternoon in Burlington.

The Clinton campaign advises that the event will be open to the press.

Kunin shines and Dems raise funds

Friday's Kunin fundraiser was a success for the State Democratic Party. About a hundred activists showed up for the former Governor’s roll-out of her new book.

One insider told us that a lot of Vermont women look to Governor Kunin as a true role model and inspiration.

It doesn't hurt that she's also able to fill the coffers.

More on the Kunin book party

As reported earlier, the Vermont Democratic Party will be holding a book party for former Governor Madeleine Kunin this evening in Burlington.

Upper-level tickets are being sold at $100, $250, and $500 apiece. The Party says that the suggested contribution is $25, but it won’t turn anyone away at the door. All proceeds will benefit the state Democratic Party.  read more »

Tonight, Kunin rolls out book to party faithful – and other fundraising news

Former Governor Madeleine Kunin will be the featured guess for a Democratic Party fundraiser this evening. She will be read excerpts from her new book, Pearls, Politics and Power. The event should raise a good crowd and some good funds. We will be watching to see how it goes. Attendance should be strong.  read more »
