Progressives hit Douglas on McCain endorsement

Progressive Party director Morgan Daybell is taking aim at Governor Jim Douglas for his weekend endorsement of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

β€œI'm surprised that (Douglas) made any endorsement. Douglas said a while back that he was going to stay out of the process,” Daybell tells PolitickerVT.com β€œIt is strange that he would go back on that, especially now that his endorsement is too late to do much good. Given Douglas's steadfast support of George Bush, I guess it is logical that he would support the candidate most likely to bring us four more years of the same.”

Progressives shouldn't hit Douglas on McCain

Governor Douglas was right to endorse John McCain, for both economic reasons and to help get us out of Iraq.

McCain stood up against the way the Administration conducted this war. He urged the President and the Secretary of Defense to send in more troops, believing that we could contain the terrorists from entering Iraq and would be better able to keep the peace. He was right.

McCain believes that we started this war, we conducted it wrong from the beginning and are just now (with the surge) beginning to achieve some success - success we should have had 3 years ago. He also believes we can't just leave the Iraq people without first stabilizing the country. In my opinion, any one with any compassion at all would agree. Anyone with any common sense should also realize it would be the 2nd worse mistake we ever made to just leave or to give a departure date to the enemy. McCain has the experience to lead us "out of the war".

John McCain has sometimes angered republicans because he will go across the aisle and work with democrats when he feels it is best for the country. One may not always agree with John McCain, but I don't know any other politician that will tell you the truth instead of what you want to hear.

John McCain's stance against pork barrel spending is well known and will save the U.S. economy millions of dollars. We can't afford not to elect John McCain.
