Pillsbury announces candidacy for Senate

Rep. Daryl Pillsbury (I-Brattleboro) has announced that he will challenge Democratic legislators Sen. Peter Shumlin and Sen. Jeanette White in Windham county’s senate contest this fall.

Pillsbury, a four-term House member, told The Rutland Herald that he has been gauging support for a potential Senate bid over the past seven months.

“[Shumlin] says he’s not beholden to the party interests, but he is the party interests,” Pillsbury tells the paper.

“People are disgusted by the party rhetoric. You pick a team, and your team has to win, and the people get left behind.”
