Chen contemplating run for lieutenant governor

Terri Hallenback, writing on the Burlington Free Press' vt.Buzz political blog, confirmed today that state Rep. Harry Chen (D-Mendon) is contemplating a run for lieutenant governor against incumbent Brian Dubie (R-Essex Junction).

Rep. Harry ChenRep. Harry ChenChen, a 3rd term state representative, is vice-chairman of the Health Care Committee, where in 2006 he reported the Catamount Health Care Bill, to a lengthy questioning session from his peers.

Speaking to Hallenback this morning, Chen said he had made no final decision and noted that facing Dubie was “going to be an uphill battle." Chen added that his inclination would be toward leaving politics altogether -- regardless of the outcome of the race, he would not run again for his seat in the state house -- but the prospect of possibly working with a Democratic President to enact universal health care interested him.

“There's opportunity there," he said.

Rumors about Chen's potential candidacy began yesterday when Seven Days columinist Shay Totten broke the news.
