Democratic gubernatorial candidate and state House Speaker Gaye Symington hit the airwaves Monday with her first radio political ad.
The 60-second clip, which will air this week on several radio stations across the state, focuses on the economy, the environment, Symington's proposed energy plan, and her tri-partisan approach to governance. The ad also takes a few jabs at Gov. Jim Douglas for what the House Speaker considers to be shifting blame for the Green Mountain State's economic troubles.
The radio ad opens with a masculine voice criticizing Douglas for Vermont's unemployment rate. Symington then introduces her energy plan, stating that it would create new jobs, utilize the state's natural resources and save Vermonters money.
"It's time to stop the games and start focusing on solutions like creating good jobs through my energy plan," Symington said in her political ad. "We can use energy sources we have here in Vermont, creating electricity from wind and solar power and heating our homes with renewable resources. My comprehensive energy plan helps Vermonters pay for energy-saving home improvements so they use less fuel and save money."
The House speaker said in Monday's statement that she was offering Vermonter's new ideas and that there has been a "great response to my energy plan when I speak about it on the campaign trail. This spot will help us reach more Vermonters with our message of fundamental change."
Below is the full text of the radio ad:
Male voiceover: There's a game going on-a blame game. Jim Douglas is blaming everyone else for Vermont's poor economy. Small wonder. With the highest unemployment in years, it's clear Jim Douglas is better at creating distractions than creating new jobs.
House Speaker Gaye Symington: This is Vermont's Speaker Gaye Symington. It's time to stop the games and start focusing on solutions like creating good jobs through my energy plan. We can use energy sources we have here in Vermont, creating electricity from wind and solar power and heating our homes with renewable resources. My comprehensive energy plan helps Vermonters pay for energy saving home improvements so they use less fuel and save money. I have always said ‘no' to political games and focused on working across party lines, when I'm governor, that's how I'll get our economy moving.
