Democratic gubernatorial candidate and House Speaker Gaye Symington has raised just over $205,000 since declaring her candidacy for Vermont's top job on May 12.
Campaign finance reports filed today show the state house Speaker raked in a total of $205,309 in a little more than two months, with approximately $135,000 cash-on-hand after expenditures nearing $70,000.
According to a statement by the Symington camp, compared to recent Democratic gubernatorial candidates, Symington's daily fundraising rate is a record.
"I'm very pleased with the success we've had gaining financial support in my first statewide campaign," Symington said in a statement today. "Collecting such a high number of contributions from so many donors in such a brief time, on top of the large number of petition signatures I gathered, shows the strong support my campaign for change enjoys throughout the state. I'm grateful to all of my contributors for their belief that I am the best choice for Governor."
The Symington camp also noted that 91 percent of its roughly 1000 contributors are Vermonters.
