IBEW Local 300 endorse U.S. Sen. Barack Obama for president

South Burlington's International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 300 organization today announced it's endorsement of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to be the next president.  

The union, which represents about 1200 public and private sector employees throughout the Green Mountain State, based its decision on the Illinois U.S. senator's commitment to working families and launched an aggressive campaign to involve its members in the political process.  

"It is no mistake that Sen. Obama earned a 98 percent lifetime rating from the AFL-CIO for his unwavering support of working families," said IBEW Local 300 Business Manager Jeffrey Wimette. "He is the lone major party presidential candidate that will fight for good wages, quality healthcare, secure retirement, fair taxation, responsible trade and the freedom to form unions."

Edwin D. Hill, IBEW International President, added that Obama would offer "positive leadership" in the future. 

IBEW Local 300 is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and has joined in its largest nationwide mobilization of union members.
