Democrats release new video bashing Gov. Douglas' sex offender policies

The Vermont Democratic Party released a video Wednesday attacking Gov. Jim Douglas (R-Middlebury) for state policies dealing with sex offenders.

The video charges Douglas with avoiding key questions about current policies, including questions about hiring and staffing in Vermont's Corrections Department, and the implementation of a Special Investigative Unit for sex crimes.

In the beginning of the political ad, Douglas is seen at a July 10 press conference when he stated that he'll "keep avoiding" a reporter's question about two of Douglas' proposals.

The video then poses a series of questions concerning the experience level of Correction's Department employees, as well as the number of employees in the department. The ad also questions the governor's opposition to a measure authorizing the implementation of sex crime investigative units.

In a statement paired with the clip, Vermont Democratic Party Spokeswoman Liz Saxe charges Douglas with "politicizing" 12-year-old Brooke Bennett's death and criticizes the governor for what the Dems call a "failure to answer serious questions about his own administration's handling of sex offender policy."
