The Vermont Democratic Party is challenging Gov. Jim Douglas' (R-Vt.) claim that Republican vice-presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-Alaska) record reflects the values of Vermonters.
Last week, when Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced Palin as his running mate, Douglas told numerous Vermont media outlets including PolitickerVT.com that she shares many of the values Vermonters hold dear and that she can identify with working residents in the Green Mountain State.
Friday, the Vermont Democratic Party asked Douglas to clarify what part of Palin’s record reflects Vermont values.
"Governor Palin's meager record is tainted by scandal and defined by positions that run contrary to the values of working Vermonters," Vermont Democratic Party spokesperson Liz Saxe said in a statement. "From George Bush to John McCain and now Sarah Palin, Jim Douglas has shown he puts toeing the Republican line ahead of advocating for the values of Vermont. Since Jim Douglas is Sarah Palin's highest profile supporter in Vermont, he owes working Vermonters an explanation as to why he's behind a candidate with such a troubled past."
