Senator pitches four-day week for schools, state workers

State agency lays off four staffers; lawmakers outraged

MONTPELIER — Reducing the number of positions in state government by 400 as workers retire and quit over the coming months was supposed to eliminate the risk that Vermont would have layoffs as other states have.

In Rutland, Sanders announces fed funding for schools

RUTLAND—Three programs that serve at-risk children in Rutland schools will get federal funding under a measure announced Monday by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

In all, the programs will get $137,950 in U.S. Department of Justice funding aimed at helping children realize the benefits of staying in school. (Boston Globe, AP)
